Dry Creek Rare Turquoise Sterling Silver Ring
This sterling silver ring features rare Dry Creek turquoise. I bezel set this cabochon and framed it with silver rope. Dry Creek turquoise has a pale blue tone similar to larimar so I gave it an antique style patina that really makes the soft blue pop. It has a double band ring shank, and a closed back that helps protect the cabochon, and adds substantial silver weight. The setting measures approximately 1” in length, and the ring is size 8.
Dry Creek turquoise comes from a small mine in Nevada that was discovered in the 1990s by the Shoshone Native American tribe, who commonly lease out their turquoise mines. When the lease owner died, his family became embroiled in disputes, and the mine closed. Today there is some turquoise available from the same region, however it is not the same quality as the original, now closed, Dry Creek mine. I have several pieces from the Dry Creek mine, as I have a turquoise supplier who deals only in estate turquoise from retired miners and jewelers.
